Wendy Sun, Director
I have several years of experience in investor relations and hold a solid background in finance. Prior to joining TPG, I was vice president of finance and investor relations for a China-based AMEX listed company - China GengSheng Minerals - where I was in charge of corporate communications and SEC filing preparation. During that period, our company uplisted to the NYSE AMEX from the OTCBB. Prior to that, I was an equity research analyst at New York-based sell-side bank Brean Murray & Carret, Inc. As an analyst, I covered industries including consumer, education and entertainment, basic industrials and nonferrous, and security.
I would say that it is evolving. The practice of high quality, best practice investor relations in China is nascent – professionals are learning about best practices from more seasoned markets like the U.S. and Europe. As one of the earlier IR agencies to establish a customer base in China, TPG has a great opportunity to serve as a resource to Chinese IROs and students learning about the field. That is what our chIRp program is all about.
Yes, I am native Chinese and fluent in both Mandarin and English. My ability to translate verbal and written communications and speak on behalf of management teams to Wall Street is useful to our clients and makes TPG highly competitive in the PRC. My understanding of Chinese business and social culture also gives us a competitive edge in business development and marketing.
Passion is the foundation of success in investor relations; it ensures long-term dedication to the practice. In addition to basic financial and security knowledge, it's important to understand the US capital market, and to be curious about diversified markets and macro-environments. Strong communication skills and critical thinking are important for us to understand and meet the needs of clients and investors. For the practice of investor relations, hard work, patience, and discretion are important contributors to success.
Continued learning is an important element of my life. I love to spend time reading the news and participating in professional programs such as Certified Financial Analyses. Balance is important, too. I value my friends and social activities. After sunset, I like to take my cat and dog for a walk.
I love to travel and experience different cultures and ways of living. Travel is a great way to relax, and helps me to always be energetic in my work.
